Ashtami and Navami – The Divine Story Behind Their Significance
As the story goes —
Ashtami and Navami (two sacred tithis) once dozed off inattentively while Lord Shiva was imparting knowledge. Angered by their negligence, Lord Shiva cursed them:
“On these two days, no auspicious events shall be commenced!”
Realizing their mistake, Ashtami and Navami turned towards Lord Vishnu, performing penance and pleading:
“On our days no one celebrates, everyone ignores us.”
Moved by compassion, Lord Vishnu blessed them:
“In my incarnations, Lord Rama will be born on Navami Tithi, and Lord Krishna will be born on Ashtami Tithi.”
From that moment onwards —
🌸 The birth of Rama is celebrated as Rama Navami
🌸 The birth of Krishna is celebrated as Gokula Ashtami (Krishna Janmashtami)
And that is why, even today, we joyfully celebrate the auspicious day of Gokula Ashtami 🙏✨
Jai Shri Ram! Jai Shri Krishna!
Wishing everyone a blessed and happy Gokula Ashtami 🌸
