பலமான பல்லவர்கள் ஆதிக்கம் இருந்த காலத்தில் (காஞ்சிபுரம்),

அப்போதே, விஜயாலய சோழன் (சுமார் கி.பி. 850) திருவிழிமிழலை (திருச்சி அருகே) கைப்பற்றி சோழ பேரரசை மறுபடியும் எழுப்பினார்.

அதன்பின், சோழர்கள் மெதுவாக பல்லவர்களின் நிலப்பரப்புகளை கைப்பற்ற ஆரம்பித்தனர்.

9ஆம் நூற்றாண்டின் இறுதியில், பல்லவர்களின் ஆட்சி குறைந்து, சோழர்களே முக்கிய பேரரசாக உயர்ந்தார்கள்.

 நாமும், விநாயகரும்

சிறுவயதிலிருந்தே மற்ற கடவுள்களை விட பிள்ளையாருடனே நமக்கொரு நெருங்கிய தொடர்பு இருக்கும். காரணம் எங்க பார்த்தாலும் பிள்ளையார் கோயில் இருக்கும். அது ஏன்? எதற்கு? என்ற வரலாறு (STD) க்கு போகாமல், நேராக என் கல்லூரிக்கே போவோம்.

தமிழ்நாட்டில் உள்ள பெரும்பாலான கல்லூரிகளின் முகப்பில் பிள்ளையார் கோயில் இருக்கும். அதற்கு விதிவிலக்கல்ல என் கல்லூரியும்.

ஒரு முறை, செமஸ்டர் exam க்கு முந்தின நாள் மாலை, நண்பன் ஒருவன் "டேய் பிள்ளையார் கோயிலுக்கு போயிடுவோமா?" என்றான். "சரி போயிடுவோம்" என்றேன். அடுத்த நாள் பரீட்சை கேள்வித்தாள் கொஞ்சம் எளிமையாக இருந்தது. படிச்சதுக்கு சுமாரான நம்பிக்கை வந்தது – தேறிவிடுவோம்னு.

அப்போ மனசுக்குள் ஒரு அல்ப ஆசை வந்துச்சு – "அடுத்த exam க்கும் இப்படியே நடக்குமா?" என்று. சரி, முயற்சி பண்ணிப் பார்ப்போமா என்று, அடுத்த exam க்கு முந்தின நாளும் நண்பனோட சேர்ந்து பிள்ளையார் கோயிலுக்கு போயிட்டேன். மறுநாள் அதுவும் நல்லாப் போச்சு.

அந்த அனுபவத்திலிருந்து என்ன கற்றுக்கிட்டேன் என்றால் –

எதிலாவது நம்பிக்கை வைக்கணும். அதே நேரத்தில் நம்ம கடமையையும் செய்யணும். அப்போ வெற்றி நிச்சயம் நமக்கே.

From childhood itself, we’ve always had a special bond with Lord Vinayagar. Maybe because wherever you go, you will surely find a small Vinayagar temple. Instead of going into the long history of why and how, let me take you straight to my college days.

In most colleges across Tamil Nadu, you’ll find a Vinayagar temple right at the entrance. My college was no exception.

Once, on the evening before a semester exam, a friend of mine said, “Shall we go to the Vinayagar temple?” I agreed, and we went. The next day, the exam paper turned out to be a bit easier, and since I had studied moderately, I felt confident that I would clear it.

That gave me a small hope: “Will this work for the next exam too?” So, the day before the next exam, I once again went with my friend to the Vinayagar temple. And surprisingly, that exam also went well.

From that experience, I learned one simple truth –

Faith in something, along with doing your duty sincerely, will surely lead to success.

 கேப்டன் விஜயகாந்த் CaptainVijayakanth

என் சிறு வயதில் தியேட்டர்ல போய் பார்த்த முதல் விஜயகாந்த் படம் சின்ன கவுண்டர். 

அந்த நினைவுகள் இன்னும் மனதில் பதிந்தே இருக்கின்றன.

Super Star ரஜினிகாந்த், உலக நாயகன் கமல்ஹாசன் ஆகிய இரு வித்தியாசமான ஆளுமைகளுக்கு நடுவில், தென்னக ரசிகர்களின் பேராதரவை தனியாகப் பெற்றவர் – நம்ம கேப்டன்.

சினிமாவில் கலரான கதாநாயகர்கள் கோலோச்சிய தருணத்தில் , கருப்பு தங்கமாக மதுரையிலிருந்து தெற்கே முழுவதும் ஒரு நாயகன் உருவானார்.

வைதேகி காத்திருந்தாள் படம் அவருக்கு மிகப்பெரிய அடையாளம் தந்தது. அந்த படத்தில் அவர் நடித்த விதமும், “ரசாத்தி உன்னை” பாடலும் – இன்னும் பல இழசுகள் முனுமுனுக்கும் பாட்டு.

அதன் பின் வந்த பல படங்கள் கேப்டனின் தனித்துவத்தை காட்டின. குறிப்பாக, அவரின் fight scenes-க்கு தனியே ரசிகர் பட்டாளம் இருந்தது. 

புலன் விசாரணை – அப்போது பாடல்களே இல்லாமல் வெற்றி பெற்ற படம் என்பதில் சினிமா வரலாற்றில் தனி இடம் பெற்றது.

100வது படம் box office-ல் சரியாக போகாது என்ற ஒரு ‘செண்டிமெண்ட்’ இருந்தது. அந்த மூடநம்பிக்கையை உடைத்தவர் விஜயகாந்த்.

அவரின் 100வது படம் கேப்டன் பிரபாகரன் மிகப்பெரிய வெற்றியைப் பெற்றது.

அதன் பின் தான் ரசிகர்கள் அவரை செல்லமாக “கேப்டன்” என்று அழைக்க ஆரம்பித்தனர்.

அந்த தருணத்திலிருந்து தமிழகம் முழுக்க அவர் ரசிகர்களின் பேரரசு ஆச்சரியமாக வளர்ந்தது.

அந்த காலத்தில் வந்த 

சின்ன கவுண்டர் பாட்டுகளும், சண்டை காட்சிகளும், உரையாடல்களும் – இன்னும் பட்டி தொட்டி repeat ஆகிக் கொண்டே இருக்கின்றன.

இந்த வெற்றிகள் சூப்பர் ஸ்டாரையும் கவர்ந்தது. அதனால் தான் ரஜினிகாந்த், சின்ன கவுண்டர் இயக்குனர் R.V. உதயகுமாரிடம் “நானும் உங்க படம் பண்ணணும்” என்று கூறி, பிறகு வந்தது எஜமான்.

செந்தில்-கவுண்டமணி காமெடி, செண்டிமெண்ட், பாடல்கள் – அத்தனை பேருக்கும் பிடித்த பக்கா கமர்ஷியல் படம்.

விஜயகாந்த் – P.வாசு காம்போவில் வந்த பொன்மனைசெம்மல் ஒரு முத்திரை பதித்த படம். அண்ணன்-தம்பி-தங்கை பாசத்தோடு, இளையராஜாவின் இசை – இன்னும் கேட்க bore ஆகாதவை. “பொட்டு வைச்ச தங்க குடம்” பாடல் இன்றும் trending-ல் தான்.

பிறகு அடுத்த தலைமுறை நடிகர்களுடன் போட்டியிட்டும், இயக்குனர் ஷங்கரின் முதல்வன், தாஜ்மஹால் போன்ற படங்களோடு, கேப்டனின் கண்ணுப்பட போகுதய்யா தீபாவளியில் வெளியானது.

B & C செண்டர்களில் சொல்லி வைத்த மாதிரி ஹிட்டு அடிச்சது. சிம்ரனுடன் நடித்த மூக்குத்தி முத்தழகு – எப்போதுமே favourite ❤️

அதன்பின், ஆளவந்தான், ஷாஜகான், நந்தா படங்களோடு தீபாவளியில் போட்டியிட்ட தவசி. அந்த நாள் வின்னர் யாருன்னா – கேப்டன்தான். பிரதியுஷாவுடன் அவர் ஆடிய பாடல், ரசிகர்களுக்கே அந்த படம் நினைவு வர காரணம்.

ஆனா என்னோட மனசுக்குள் special இடம் பிடிச்ச படம் வல்லரசு.

அதில் வரும் காவிரி நீர் காட்சி மறக்க முடியாதது.

“சென்னைக்கே வர்றது, தமிழ்நாட்டுக்கு காவிரி தரக்கூடாது”னு பாராளுமன்றத்தில் சொன்ன MP. அவரை தீவிரவாதிகளிடமிருந்து காப்பாற்றும் கேப்டன்.

கடைசியில் அந்த MP, “உன் ஒருவனுக்காவது காவிரி தண்ணீர் தரச் சொல்றேன்”னு சொல்வது – காமெடியா இருந்தாலும் goosebumps தரும் dialogue. தியேட்டர்ல கைகள் தட்ட வைக்க வைத்த iconic scene அது.

இன்று ஆகஸ்ட் 25. கேப்டனின் பிறந்த நாள்.

இன்று அவர் நம்மோடு இல்லை. ஆனாலும், அவரது படங்களும், ரசிகர்களின் அன்பும், அவர் விட்டுச்சென்ற நினைவுகளும் – எப்போதுமே நம்மோடு இருக்கும்.

என் சிறு வயதில் தியேட்டர்ல போய் பார்த்த முதல் விஜயகாந்த் படம் சின்ன கவுண்டர். 

அந்த நினைவுகள் இன்னும் மனதில் பதிந்தே இருக்கின்றன.

Super Star ரஜினிகாந்த், உலக நாயகன் கமல்ஹாசன் ஆகிய இரு வித்தியாசமான ஆளுமைகளுக்கு நடுவில், தென்னக ரசிகர்களின் பேராதரவை தனியாகப் பெற்றவர் – நம்ம கேப்டன்.

சினிமாவில் கலரான கதாநாயகர்கள் கோலோச்சிய தருணத்தில் , கருப்பு தங்கமாக மதுரையிலிருந்து தெற்கே முழுவதும் ஒரு நாயகன் உருவானார்.

வைதேகி காத்திருந்தாள் படம் அவருக்கு மிகப்பெரிய அடையாளம் தந்தது. அந்த படத்தில் அவர் நடித்த விதமும், “ரசாத்தி உன்னை” பாடலும் – இன்னும் பல இழசுகள் முனுமுனுக்கும் பாட்டு.

அதன் பின் வந்த பல படங்கள் கேப்டனின் தனித்துவத்தை காட்டின. குறிப்பாக, அவரின் fight scenes-க்கு தனியே ரசிகர் பட்டாளம் இருந்தது. 

புலன் விசாரணை – அப்போது பாடல்களே இல்லாமல் வெற்றி பெற்ற படம் என்பதில் சினிமா வரலாற்றில் தனி இடம் பெற்றது.

100வது படம் box office-ல் சரியாக போகாது என்ற ஒரு ‘செண்டிமெண்ட்’ இருந்தது. அந்த மூடநம்பிக்கையை உடைத்தவர் விஜயகாந்த்.

அவரின் 100வது படம் கேப்டன் பிரபாகரன் மிகப்பெரிய வெற்றியைப் பெற்றது.

அதன் பின் தான் ரசிகர்கள் அவரை செல்லமாக “கேப்டன்” என்று அழைக்க ஆரம்பித்தனர்.

அந்த தருணத்திலிருந்து தமிழகம் முழுக்க அவர் ரசிகர்களின் பேரரசு ஆச்சரியமாக வளர்ந்தது.

அந்த காலத்தில் வந்த 

சின்ன கவுண்டர் பாட்டுகளும், சண்டை காட்சிகளும், உரையாடல்களும் – இன்னும் பட்டி தொட்டி repeat ஆகிக் கொண்டே இருக்கின்றன.

இந்த வெற்றிகள் சூப்பர் ஸ்டாரையும் கவர்ந்தது. அதனால் தான் ரஜினிகாந்த், சின்ன கவுண்டர் இயக்குனர் R.V. உதயகுமாரிடம் “நானும் உங்க படம் பண்ணணும்” என்று கூறி, பிறகு வந்தது எஜமான்.

செந்தில்-கவுண்டமணி காமெடி, செண்டிமெண்ட், பாடல்கள் – அத்தனை பேருக்கும் பிடித்த பக்கா கமர்ஷியல் படம்.

விஜயகாந்த் – P.வாசு காம்போவில் வந்த பொன்மனைசெம்மல் ஒரு முத்திரை பதித்த படம். அண்ணன்-தம்பி-தங்கை பாசத்தோடு, இளையராஜாவின் இசை – இன்னும் கேட்க bore ஆகாதவை. “பொட்டு வைச்ச தங்க குடம்” பாடல் இன்றும் trending-ல் தான்.

பிறகு அடுத்த தலைமுறை நடிகர்களுடன் போட்டியிட்டும், இயக்குனர் ஷங்கரின் முதல்வன், தாஜ்மஹால் போன்ற படங்களோடு, கேப்டனின் கண்ணுப்பட போகுதய்யா தீபாவளியில் வெளியானது.

B & C செண்டர்களில் சொல்லி வைத்த மாதிரி ஹிட்டு அடிச்சது. சிம்ரனுடன் நடித்த மூக்குத்தி முத்தழகு – எப்போதுமே favourite ❤️

அதன்பின், ஆளவந்தான், ஷாஜகான், நந்தா படங்களோடு தீபாவளியில் போட்டியிட்ட தவசி. அந்த நாள் வின்னர் யாருன்னா – கேப்டன்தான். பிரதியுஷாவுடன் அவர் ஆடிய பாடல், ரசிகர்களுக்கே அந்த படம் நினைவு வர காரணம்.

ஆனா என்னோட மனசுக்குள் special இடம் பிடிச்ச படம் வல்லரசு.

அதில் வரும் காவிரி நீர் காட்சி மறக்க முடியாதது.

“சென்னைக்கே வர்றது, தமிழ்நாட்டுக்கு காவிரி தரக்கூடாது”னு பாராளுமன்றத்தில் சொன்ன MP. அவரை தீவிரவாதிகளிடமிருந்து காப்பாற்றும் கேப்டன்.

கடைசியில் அந்த MP, “உன் ஒருவனுக்காவது காவிரி தண்ணீர் தரச் சொல்றேன்”னு சொல்வது – காமெடியா இருந்தாலும் goosebumps தரும் dialogue. தியேட்டர்ல கைகள் தட்ட வைக்க வைத்த iconic scene அது.

இன்று ஆகஸ்ட் 25. கேப்டனின் பிறந்த நாள்.

இன்று அவர் நம்மோடு இல்லை. ஆனாலும், அவரது படங்களும், ரசிகர்களின் அன்பும், அவர் விட்டுச்சென்ற நினைவுகளும் – எப்போதுமே நம்மோடு இருக்கும்.

 Captain Vijayakanth – My Memories, My Admiration

The very first Vijayakanth film I watched in a theatre during my childhood was Chinna Gounder. That memory still stays fresh in my heart.

After Super Star Rajinikanth and Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan, the one actor who carved a separate space in Tamil cinema with immense fan support across South Tamil Nadu was none other than our Captain Vijayakanth.

At a time when colorful heroes dominated the screen, he emerged as a black diamond from Madurai and the southern districts.

The film Vaidhegi Kaathirundhaal gave him a strong identity. His performance in the film and the evergreen song Rasathi Unna still linger in households, humming across generations.

From then on, Vijayakanth’s films earned him a unique fan base, especially for his powerful fight sequences.

One such milestone was Pulan Visaranai – a film that stood apart, succeeding without a single song, which was quite rare in Tamil cinema of that era.

In Tamil cinema, there was always a superstition that an actor’s 100th film wouldn’t succeed. But Vijayakanth broke that belief with his blockbuster Captain Prabhakaran.

From then, fans lovingly began calling him “Captain.”

That was the turning point when his stardom spread beyond the south to all corners of Tamil Nadu.

Songs from Chinna Gounder, the action scenes, the dialogues – they continue to be played and celebrated in villages and towns even today.

This string of successes even influenced Rajinikanth. It was the impact of Chinna Gounder that made Superstar request director R.V. Udayakumar to work with him, resulting in Ejamaan.

The combination of Senthil–Goundamani comedy, emotions, and hit songs made it a perfect commercial blockbuster.

Vijayakanth’s collaboration with director P. Vasu gave us Ponmana Selvan, a film that beautifully portrayed the bond between siblings.

With Ilaiyaraaja’s music, songs like Pottu Vaicha Thangam Kudam are still trending and widely loved.

Later, competing with films like Shankar’s Muthalvan and Taj Mahal, Captain released Kannu Pada Pogudhaiyaa for Deepavali.

As expected, he scored a big win in the B & C centres.

His pairing with Simran gave us the evergreen Mookkuthi Muthazhagu, a song that remains a fan favourite ❤️

The same happened during the Diwali releases of Aalavandhan, Shahjahan, and Nandha. Competing with these, Vijayakanth’s Thavasi emerged as the winner of that festival season.

The song featuring him with Prathyusha is still remembered fondly by fans.

But among all his films, the one closest to my heart is Vallarasu.

The scene revolving around the Cauvery water issue is unforgettable.

In the film, an MP from Mysore who opposed granting Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu becomes a target for terrorists. Vijayakanth, as the police officer, saves him.

In the end, the MP says, “At least for you, I’ll say yes to giving Cauvery water.”

Though delivered with a touch of humour, that dialogue gave goosebumps and made the entire theatre clap with emotion.

Today, August 25, marks the birthday of our beloved Captain Vijayakanth.

Though he is no longer with us, his films, his fans’ love, and the legacy he left behind will forever remain alive in our hearts.

 Refugee – A Word Full of Pain

The devastating floods of 2015 that crippled Chennai can never be forgotten. Among the worst-affected areas was Mudichur. The place where I lived was completely submerged, and it felt like being stranded on an island. I was lost, not knowing what to do.

At that very moment, I received a call from my friend—

“Don’t think twice. Just come over to my house immediately,” he said.

He knew me well. If he had continued talking, I might have come up with some excuse to decline. Twelve years of friendship had made him understand me completely.

The Comfort of Friendship

Once I reached his place, it took me a day to regain my mental balance. Long conversations, laughter, and casual chats slowly brought me back to normal. Luckily, there was a bus facility from his locality to my office, so travel wasn’t a problem.

One day, while traveling by bus, I met a colleague. With a look of surprise, he asked,

“How come you’re in this area?”

I replied that I was staying at my friend’s house.

A few days later, while sipping coffee at the office, that same colleague casually remarked with a laugh,

“Right now, Raja is in our area. Until things settle down, our neighborhood is like a refugee camp for him!”

That moment was when I truly felt the pain behind the word “refugee.”

Until then, I had only read or heard the word in newspapers and on TV. If moving from one part of the same city to another could feel so painful, how much greater must the suffering be for those who leave their homeland entirely and are forced to live as refugees in another country?

From that day onwards, whenever I come across the word “refugee,” a strange, indescribable sadness takes hold of me.
