Kuberaa Review

It was someone’s review that truly sparked my interest in watching Kubera.

But it made me wonder — why Nagarjuna? Why Dhanush for this story?

What I felt was — only with this kind of casting can a film like this reach the masses.

A story involving ₹1 lakh crore hawala, a super-rich protagonist — it needs a big star to truly gain traction and attention.

Why do I say this?

Because director Bharathiraja, a legend known for beautifully portraying village life, once made a film about the life of India’s richest man — “Kangalal Kaidhu Sei.”

It had:

Music by A.R. Rahman

Dialogues by Sujatha

Direction by Bharathiraja

The making was top-notch.

But the only issue? The hero and heroine were newcomers.

Maybe that’s why the film didn’t really become a hit.

And I feel the same fear could have affected Kubera too — the makers wanted to avoid that.

Nagarjuna’s character could have been given a bit more depth.

That said, @dhanushkraja brings phenomenal acting, breathing life into his character.

From the beginning till the end, the audience truly feels:

“Come on… it’s just ₹10,000 crore… can’t you just let it go?”

But the villain says:

“It’s not about the money… he humiliated me. He has to die.”

This line powerfully conveys the character’s emotions.

And when Dhanush says:

“I wanted you to change… but you never will,”

— that’s such raw, realistic writing.

Massive 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 to the director for that.

What’s interesting is how, in today's trend, corporates are being shown as villains, almost normalizing that idea, and politicians are completely absent from that space — the director seems to have made a conscious choice here.

Overall, the film tries to tell an engaging story.

The first half succeeds in doing so.

If the second half had been trimmed and tightened, this could have easily been a thrilling hit.
